RAISON D’ETRE
PARSHA
RE-EH 08
RAISON D’ETRE
“Re-eh Anochi see I…” (Deut.11.26)
The perceptive of your ‘I’ for man’s essential task is to know yourself. (Hassidic saying).
How do we get to know ourselves?
The initial and final letters of the term Re-eh – see, in reverse read Har – mountain.
Roberto Assagioli shows that a person may gain conscious awareness of his higher self through ‘inner ascent’, climbing an imaginary mountain. Like the ascent of a mountaineer, the spiritual climb will take one through thick mist, cold and dark, before breaking through to the sun-drenched summit.
From this elevated vantage point, we are able to visualise our ideals, our purpose and our aspirations in life.
We begin to know ourselves when we understand and appreciate our commitments and our responsibilities.
We become ourselves through devotion and dedication.
We are ourselves when we are true to our higher self.
