KI TAVO 07
“Because you did not serve Hashem your G-d with joyfulness and gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things, therefore you shall serve your enemies whom Hashem will send against you in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and in want of all things”
(Deut.28.47f)
For every limb of the human body, the Holy One Blessed Be He created a protective shield. The eye has lids; the ear has a lobe; the mouth has lips. Even the brain has a device to shield it from harmful negative thoughts. It is a quality of joy. (In the name of R Moshe Leib of Sossov)
The negative is down, the positive is up.
Negative thoughts lead to depression, dejection, despair, down-heartedness and a lowliness of spirit; all expressed with an Oy!
Positive thoughts effect the inverse opposite and Oy is changed to joy.
Joy as such cannot be commanded for it is an effect. It is the consequence of giving up, of surrender, of sacrifice, of service to a higher noble cause.
