SAVE FOR THE KING
“From among your brethren shall you set a king over you” (Deut.17.16)
“From among your brethren”. This implies ‘out of a sense of brotherhood’.
When a people sanctify themselves in brotherly love and companionship, they deserve to appoint a king to rule over them.
Who is this king? The Holy One Blessed Be He. (R Avraham of Slonim)
When there is love, brotherhood, harmony and companionship amongst people, they elevate themselves spiritually. They are uplifted in the presence of the Shechinah and the Holy One Blessed Be He descends to meet them halfway.
