When we hear someone calling, our natural tendency is to look up to see who it is.
The call of the Shema comes from G-d who has neither image nor form. We do not see him, we perceive him. Raising our eyes brings about the elevation of mind, of body, of spirit.
We attain a high with our eyes up and our feet firmly on the ground. We feel upbeat and inspired to act in a constructive manner. By engaging in the practice of the positive commandments we continue to feel good by doing good.
