UPLIFTING TALK

“A ladder was set on the ground and its top reached heavenward” (Gen.28.12)

Man may be compared to a ladder. Both stand with their feet on the ground and the heads of both reach to the sky. (Maayanah Shel Torah)

A ladder extended beyond a short limit cannot be uplifting when the ground support is weak and cannot bear much weight. It will tilt and sink.

Similarly, a ‘luftmensch’ – a person of little substance who has his head in the clouds, cannot be a spiritual being.

By contrast, the practical man who has his feet planted firmly on the ground, may aspire to great spiritual heights.
