THE ETERNAL CONSTANT
“Esh Tamid a perpetual fire shall be kept burning on the altar, not to go out” (Lev.6.6)
The term Tamid – perpetual, is used to describe the light of the Menorah – candelabrum. The Sages therefore deduced that the light to kindle the Menorah was taken from the continuously burning altar. (Cf. Yoma 45b)
In this light, it should not be surprising to learn that the Gematria for Esh – the altar fire, is 301 and equal to the Gematria for Menorah. (Parperaot Lehochmah)
The numbers 1 and 3 of 301 constitute 13, the Gematria for one – Ehad.
The Menorah of seven branches made from one bar of gold highlights the free spirit oneness of cosmic creation of seven days, and the light of one written Torah plus six orders of Mishna.
The continuous liberating fire of the altar, kindled one time only, symbolises the eternal union of the Holy One Blessed Be He and the Community of Israel created with the exodus from Egypt.
The Korban Pesah, prepared as a whole entity and eaten in communion, symbolises the union of G-d and Israel consequent upon the liberation of the spirit of Israel. The Gematria of the term Pesah is 148, reduced to 13 = Ehad = one.
One is the eternal constant.
